Law Legal Speed Meet Event

DCU Clubs and Societies Awards go online

The annual DCU Clubs and Societies Awards for 2020/21 took place online for two Alumni categories.

The 2020/21 recipient for ‘Graduate Contribution to a Club or Society’ was Sinead McMullen (BA Communication Studies, 2020) of DCU Drama.

Sinead was a cast member for the society’s Semester One show, as well as the Director of the Semester Two virtual musical, Little Shop of Horrors. Her role in the latter involved auditioning almost 30 people over Zoom, running bi-weekly rehearsals, assisting with PR and budgets, spending over 20 hours recording the show and much more.

It was her first production or committee role within the society and Sinead was praised for overcoming “many personal doubts about her own abilities”, and for her “work ethic, determination, creativity, and enthusiasm”, which had an incredible impact on the society.

The 2020/21 recipient for ‘Alumni Engagement Award’ for Best Club or Society event engaging DCU Alumni, was the DCU Law Society for their ‘(Virtual) Legal Speed Meet’. The event took place on February 1st, 2021 and hosted representatives from various Irish law firms and related legal companies. Current students had the opportunity to speak with legal professionals on a one-to-one basis.

DCU Alumna and PhD candidate, Beatrice Monciunskaite (BCL, 2018) said: “The sense of community DCU Law Society has created through their hosting of career and skill development events has always been indispensable for students. The Legal Speed Meet is an event that opens the door for students to diverse employers, giving them the insight and confidence to proceed in their legal careers.”
