New Frontiers of Ageing: Research, Policy and Practice March 13th/14th, 2018


DCU who  is leading the Global Age Friendly University Network is delighted to host the second international conference on age friendly universities:

Engaging Ageing 2018: Research, Policy & Practice which will take place on March 13/14th, 2018 in Croke Park, Dublin.

The Keynote address will be given by Prof. Alexander Kalache, a former Director of the World Health Organisation’s global Ageing and Life Course Programme from the Geneva headquarters. During his thirteen years at WHO he launched the Active Ageing Policy Framework and the global movement on Age-Friendly Cities among many other enduring initiatives.  

Other Keynotes for parallel sessions include:

  • Creative Ageing - Prof. Des O'Neill - Trinity College,  Dublin
  • Technology & Health - Prof. Andrew Sixsmith - Simon Fraser University, Canada
  • Work and Enterprise - Prof.  Ruth Finkelstein,  Executive Director of the Brookdale Center on Aging at Hunter College and Professor of Urban Public Health, USA
  • Community Engagement/Education Learner Engagment & Outreach - Dr. Aíne Ni Léime, National University of Ireland Galway
  • Research & Innovation - Dr. Allison Sekular, Baycrest Health Sciences


We are now inviting abstracts and session proposals for the conference under the general theme of New Frontiers of Ageing: Research, Policy & Practice. 

Proposals from academics, practitioners from varied professional backgrounds, policy makers, non-governmental organisations and civic society are most welcome. 

We anticipate that this conference will promote and develop the concept of the Age-Friendly University, disseminate new practice and share research on ageing across a broad range of themes. There will be six parallel sessions:

  1. Research and Innovation
  2. Community Engagement  Initiatives and Partnerships
  3. Education, Learner Engagement and Outreach
  4. Technology and Health
  5. Work and Enterprise
  6. Creative ageing

Abstracts and session proposals are invited under these themes.   If you wish  to submit an abstract that falls outside of these themes please select 'Other' as the theme topic on the submission form and it will be  considered by our review panel.

The language of the conference is English. Abstract submission is free of charge.

All abstracts and session proposals (up to 300 words) are to be submitted using the online form below by midnight  on Friday 15th  December 2017. 

A decision on the abstract/proposal will be provided on a rolling basis between January 5th and January 26th 2018.

Please note that this form does not register you for the conference, but is simply for the purposes of submitting an abstract.
