Jobs Stimulus Courses FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I study more than one single module at a time?

Yes, as long as timetabling permits and as long as the total number of credits doesn’t exceed 30 ECTS.

If you have accepted an offer of a place on a Masters or Graduate Certificate under this scheme, please be aware that you will not also be able to accept a place for a single module.

If you'd like to select modules across a number of DCU faculties, please note that you can only study across a maximum of two faculties. Furthermore, you can only take a maximum of three single modules in one Faculty.

Single module options may be restricted due to limited places available and timetabling constraints.

Can you explain what ECTS means?

ECTS stands for the European Credit Transfer System and it’s how we measure academic credits in the European Qualifications Framework. Each programme is structured around modules which equate to a number of credits in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Modules are self-contained teaching units. So a module might be worth 5 or 10 ECTS while a Masters award requires 90 ECTS.

What type of award will I get when I complete these programmes?

The Masters programmes are composed of 90 ECTS and will confer a Masters Degree. The Graduate Certificates are composed of 30 ECTS and the award is a Graduate Certificate.

Single modules confer ECTS credit only. They do not confer a DCU award. However, each module is linked to a DCU award and those who successfully complete modules may be eligible to apply for exemptions if they register for an Award in the future.

How do I apply?

You can apply on www.pac.ie/dcu

In the case of applying to an individual module, you select the faculty associated with that module and will then be prompted to choose the individual module you're interested in. So for example for modules in DCU Business School, in PAC you select Single Module Business School DC531.
