DCU Dóchas Éireann land both Division One & Two Ladies Football League titles
In the space of two days there was cause for double celbrations on the Ladies Football front for DCU Dóchas Éireann as both the Division One & Division Two titles were landed in contrasting circumstances. The first title came on Tuesday November 28th, as the Division Two side beat Mary Immaculate College (Limerick) in a low scoring encounter on a scoreline of 0-7 to 1-3. It was a very tense end to a league campaign which initially seen strong performance in the group with comfortable wins over It Carlow, Trinity College and a strong showing against the other DCU Dóchas Éireann side in the same league. The competition became much sterner thereafter as a highscoring thriller against WIT, with a 3-16 to 2-13 win in St. Clare's. The final then came in the guise of two free scoring teams, but due to conditions in Stradbally, Laois it was to be anything but a fluid affair as both defences were well on top as our ladies won out by the finest of margins.
The second final of the week seen the O'Connor Cup side land a reversal on UL following suffering a group stage defeat to the Limerick side. The group stages of the campaign seen the girls take a while to get into full flow, as a narrow victory over UCD was followed by an even closer to defeat to UL, before an extremely strong showing in the Mardyke, Cork against UCC seen the team blossom. This set up a semi final pairing with Athlone IT and our girls proved far the stronger. As UL came through on the other side against NUIG it was a repeat fixture of the earlier group game. Stradbally again was the venue for the final with the DCU girls starting off much the stonger team, building up a strong half time lead against the Limerick colleges with fine scores coming from Sarah Rowe, Aishling Sheridan and Aisling Moloney. DCU proved resilient in shutting out the opposiition in the second half and made sure the gap was never reduced effectively, running out winners 0-18 to 1-10.
