Academic biography

Dr. Tracey Harrington, Ph.D., RGN, RNT, BNS (Hons) Neonatal ICU, MSc in Exercise & Nutrition (2018) MSc in Psychotherapy (DCU, 2024) a lecturer in School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health in DCU. She has 15 years’ experience of teaching in a third-level institution having taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules in immunology, sexuality, research modules, and a wide variety of nursing modules, currently Caring and Communication, fundamental to effective nursing care.
She was awarded a Ph.D. from Imperial College, UK in 2002 following receipt of a PhD studentship from Imperial Postgraduate Research Awards.  Graduated with three publications in high ranking journals
She has been programme chair for the Post Registration in Children’s Nursing Programme (PRCN) (2011 – 2014) & Professional Development Framework (2007-2014).
Her research interests are #mental health and well-being, #stigma, #sexual health, #sexual health education, combatting #sexual harassment and violence, #women's health, #obesity and stigma, and #eHealth, #EBM and #communication skills.

Research interests

Research interests: Sexual Health and Sex Education. Sexual Consent & Active Bystander.  With rapid advances in technology, I am exploring methods for effective communication in the digital era, such as Twitter and other social media platforms, for engaging students. Interested in issues relating to the sexual health needs of young people. Mental health and stigma. Women's health needs. Bias in health care. eHealth.
Previous research experience includes maternal, infant, and child health and nutrition. Overweight, obesity and stigma.
