PRIDE at Home – FutureLearn course launch
This MOOC derived out of the research project Homecare: Inclusive & Diverse (HID) - Person-Centred Homecare Services for Community Dwelling Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Intersex (LGBTI) People. It is available on the FutureLearn platform and is available free for those who wish to undertake it.
This programme will equip people working in health and social care services in Ireland with essential skills to foster equality, respect, and dignity in healthcare settings while enhancing your professional competencies. The course to be available internationally and transferable across different national health contexts, we also wanted it to reflect the specific realities of homecare in Ireland, and to present as background the evolution of acceptance and integration into Irish society of sexual minorities.
The programme is accessible in terms of content and language, and freely available online so that it could reach the widest possible number of interested learners. Each topic of the programme is covered to be effective in providing a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge (in topics such as nursing and care, sociology of health, and LGBTI studies) and practical tools (guidelines, situational vignettes, assessment quizzes) that can be applied within the distinct experience of delivering care to older members of the LGBTI community in the context of their homes. The course is available internationally and transferable across different national health contexts, it also reflects the specific realities of homecare in Ireland and represents the evolution of acceptance and integration into Irish society of sexual minorities.
