Nursing in Contexts of Marginalised Health Conference

Nurses who work in contexts of marginalised health are at the forefront of providing comprehensive care to vulnerable and deprived populations facing multiple and complex social and health problems. Intensive, skilled nursing care is often required due to higher rates of mental and physical illness, complex co-morbidities and a lack of continuity of care (Wong 2008). However, reports from Ireland (O Carroll 2013) and elsewhere (Valaitis 2011) state that nurses working in these areas tend to be isolated and lack resources to support their practice including opportunities for educational and practice development.
We invite you to a one day conference on 11th September in the School of Nursing and Human Sciences, Dublin City University where we will explore the contexts, practices and development of nursing in marginalised health in Ireland.
Sessions will include:
- Irish nursing practice in marginalised health - successes and challenges (presentations and posters welcome)
- Development of practice and career pathways in marginalised health nursing, including information regarding the new pending NMBI Standards and Requirements for advanced practice (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Marginalised Health Nursing in the UK – a case study of professional and practice development (Queen’s Nursing Institute UK)
- Future directions – facilitated discussion with all delegates
