Physics Research Day 2023 rewards student communicators
The standard of science communication was high, and Professor Eilish McLoughlin was impressed by the passion and confidence of the students when discussing their projects.
Professor McLoughlin said:
"The projects were representative of the breadth of nationally and internationally funded projects at DCU in physics and STEM education, data analytics and modelling, astronomy and astrophysics, biomedical physics, plasma and laser plasma physics, materials and nanotechnology."
The day was an opportunity, post-Covid, for undergraduates, postgraduates, academic and technical staff at the School of Physical Sciences to catch up together in a single room.
It began with a student poster presentation by undergraduate and postgraduate research students. This was followed by two-minute poster explanations by students.
The posters were judged for the standard of science communication and there were winners and runners up prizes in the undergraduate and post-graduate categories.
The undergraduate runners up were Leon Brown and Aoife Finn Gallagher, while the winner was Alannah Cunningham.
The postgraduate (senior) winner was Jo Bosschaert, while the postgraduate (junior) winner was Orlaith Condon.
