Ina chuid taighde, fiosraíonn sé ceisteanna an fhéin, féiniúlachta, agus inspreagtha i leith fhoghlaimeoirí fásta na Gaeilge, mar aon leis na deiseanna agus deacrachtaí féiniúlachta a bhaineann le foghlaim na Gaeilge. 

Tá spéiseanna taighde leithne aige, idir tionchar na teicneolaíochta ar fhoghlaim teangacha, an nasc idir an fhoghlaim sheach-fhoirmiúil agus fhoirmiúil, difríochtaí síceolaíochta idir foghlaimeoirí Gaeilge de chúlraí ilchineálacha, agus ról na Gaeilge mar léiriú féiniúlachta. Cuireann sé spéis fosta i dtionchar an Bhéarla ar fhoghlaim mionteangacha, agus róil mionteangacha i sochaithe ilchineálacha/ilteangacha.

Dr. Conchúr Mac Lochlainn is an Assistant Professor in Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge, focusing on the fields of motivation, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and applied linguistics. Conchúr attended Coláiste Chilliain, Clondalkin, and graduated with a B.A. in Business and Irish (2014) and Ph.D. (2023) from Dublin City University. In his research, he examines questions of the self/selves, identities, and motivations of adult learners of Irish, as well as the opportunities and difficulties regarding identity when learning Irish. 

He has broad research interests, including the impact of technology on language learning, the link between non-formal and formal-learning, psychological differences between diverse learners of Irish, and the role of Irish as an expression of identity. He is also interested in the impact of English on minority language learning, and the roles of minority languages in diverse/multilingual societies.
