Pia O’Farrell is a lecturer in the School of Policy and Practice at the DCU Institute of Education. She is a Ph.D. candidate undertaking research on assessment of mental health in Trinity College, Dublin. Her research has involved collaborating with various psychological and early years services in Ireland. She also has been involved in cross-border research with colleagues in Northern Ireland. Pia has worked as part of an interdisciplinary research team and on an Early Intervention Project, Preparing for Life, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies. She has also worked with Animo Productions on a programme which explored changing family contexts and their impact on a child’s development.

Research Interests

Pia is interested in assessment, and in particular, assessment of children with additional needs and children with social and emotional behavioural difficulties,  assessment of mental heath in the classroom, early years assessment, classroom assessment, assessment and its implications for policy and practice.
