I am an assistant professor in Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge at Dublin City University. I hold a BA (Mod.) in computational linguistics and a PhD in speech technology from Trinity College Dublin. My research focuses on digital terminology, onomastics and folkloristics, as well as phonetics and language technology. I am the Co-Principal Investigator of the AHRC-IRC Decoding Hidden Heritages project (2021–24). I am the Principal Investigator of the Department of the Gaeltacht-funded Logainm Placenames Database of Ireland project (www.logainm.ie; meitheal.logainm.ie).
I am the technology manager of the Gaois research group (www.gaois.ie; github.com/gaois; docs.gaois.ie). I am module coordinator for FN341 (Irish Linguistics) and module co-coordinator of FN568 (Corpus Research). I am the creator of the Gaois Linguistic Database of Irish-language Surnames (www.gaois.ie/en/surnames). I am the author of Fuaimeanna na Gaeilge (Cois Life, 2014) and creator of the RIA-funded www.fuaimeanna.ie. I am the product manager of Terminologue, the cloud-based terminology management platform (www.terminologue.org).
I am on the steering committee of the Department of the Gaeltacht and EU Directorate-General for Translation project to support GA terminology in the EU Institutions. I am on the management committee and technical working group of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) Historical Dictionary of Modern Irish (FNG). I am a member of the Society for Names Studies in Briatain and Ireland (SNSBI), the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF), and the Core Interest Group for Irish Language Technology (CIGILT). I am a member of the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) Expert Advisory Group (EAG).
