Dr. Lorraine Delaney, Assistant Professor.
Dr. Lorraine Delaney BA, MSc, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Socioogy at DCU's Institute of Education. Lorraine has many years experience in online higher education (DCU Open Education), where she developed four new level 8 programmes, which were successful in securing HEA (Springboard+) funding. Lorraine moved more recently to teacher education. Lorraine is an experienced lecturer and dissertation supervisor and is former Programme Chair of the BSc in Information Technology, BSc in Information Systems, Higher Diploma in Interaction Design and Higher Diploma in Management of IT. Lorriane currently coordinates the following seven modules: (1) SPHE, Sociology and Hishtory of Education; (2) What is Sociology? (3) Sociology of the Lifecourse (4) Societal Structures and Social Order (5) Social Inequality and Intergroup Relations (6) Sociology of Health and Illness and (7) Language, Culture and Society. She teachs at undergraduate level on the Bacherlor of Education and at postgraduate level on the Postgraduate Masters in Primary Education and Postgraduate Masters in Education. She supervises student research projects at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level and, together with her colleague Dr. Amalee Meehan, acts as the School of Human Development Ethics Convenor. Lorraine has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests are interdisciplinary and include social inequality, social class, social stratification, higher education access and transitioning, part-time higher education, teacher education, technology in teaching and learning, adult education, higher education retention and completion, graduate employability and education policy.
