Denise Proudfoot

As an Assistant Professor Denise lectures primarily on the mental health nursing pathway in the school and was the programme chair for the BSc in mental health nursing degree 2019-2021.From March 2021- September 2022 she was the Deputy Head for the school with specific responsobilty for nursing programmes. She has many years experience lecturing across a variety of nursing/health topics including assessment in mental health nursing , health and marginalisation and primary care and mental health.She developed and now runs a undergraduate nursing module titled Sexuality and Sexual health for nursing practice.
Her research interests include narrative research, life with HIV,sexual health promotion in nursing and marginalisation and health. Her doctorate research ( University of Bath) was a narrative study with mothers living with HIV. Her particular interest in gender and HIV continues in her post-doc research endeavours. During 2019, she led a research study about the community impact of Dual Diagnosis. She is an active member of Nurses and Midwives for Inclusion Health group.

Denise has knowledge and expertise in HIV qualitative
research design, specifically using narrative methods.She is a member of SWIFT (Supporting Women
with HIV; Forum and Information) which is a UK and Irish group of clinicians,
academics and service users who want to further the research agenda with HIV
positive women.
Denise has research interests in the areas of HIV, sexual health and mental health nursing,health and marginalisation & health promotion.
