Navigating the Funding Landscape – Launch event
This event, Wednesday, 28 October 2015, 10:00 – 15:00, launches a new guide to Physics funding from the IOP. It has been written for researchers who are currently working towards a PhD or on fixed-term postdoctoral research contracts, with a focus on funding for travel, career development and fellowships. Building a track record of getting funding, even for small amounts, at the start of your career teaches you how to convince people to support your ideas and ambitions; more importantly it demonstrates your initiative, independence and drive – boosting your broader employability whatever your ultimate career destination.
You will hear first hand from researchers who have been awarded funding, senior academics who review proposals, and representatives from the organisations which develop and manage research funding schemes.
These expert speakers will share advice for early career researchers and help you to
- Identify the best funding for your career stage and ideas
- Understand what funders expect and need to see in applications
- Write convincing applications
- React positively to reviewers
- Perform strongly at interview
The event will also be an opportunity to network with other early career physicists and the speakers and to learn more about other IOP support- the ideal opportunity to learn from experts.
