As part of the Research Strategy to promote a research ethics culture at DCU, the Research Development and Support team has scheduled online weekly Research Ethics Drop-In Clinics on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:00pm via Zoom.
Academic and research staff are welcome to drop in to discuss research ethics matters related to grant proposals, research projects, research ethics review applications, etc. The link for the clinics can be accessed via the REC clinic calendar.
The Research Ireland Research Outputs Survey 2024 is now open.
The deadlines for Research Ireland-funded researchers to submit Research Outputs and Annual Reports are 21st January 2025 and 31st January 2025, respectively.
Please note that Research Outputs Survey for the 2024 period will only apply to researchers who hold or held grants funded by the former SFI and has not, for this reporting period, been extended out to former IRC award holders. Research Ireland will be carrying out a full review of reporting requirements for all Research Ireland researchers in due course but, for now, IRC and SFI reporting requirements will continue as before.
Who is required to complete RO2024?
It is mandatory for all researchers who had active SFI research grants during 2020 to 2024 to complete the survey.
- Researchers active after 01/10/2024 must report on ALL research output areas and activities in 2024 including publications, conferences, commercial outputs, collaborations etc (Full Research Outputs). Late or non-submission of Research Outputs for this cohort will result in the application of penalty points.
- All other researchers (active from 1/1/2020 to 30/9/2024) are in classed as inactive. While they will not incur penalty points as a result of late or non-submission, Research Ireland do still require that they submit.
- Former SFI Researchers who have NOT been active in the last 5 years are no longer requested to complete Research Outputs.
- Award administrators on Research Centres, CRTs, CDTs and some Strategic Partnerships have an additional 2 weeks (until 6th February) to aggregate the data from their members submissions. These deadlines cannot be extended due to Research Ireland's own downstream reporting requirements.
- The Reporting Compliance Policy applies.
Annual (Scientific) / Final Reports
Annual / Final progress reports are annual progress updates in relation to each active grant. They can overlap somewhat with the Research Outputs insofar as the quantitative element (relevant publications, collaborations etc) can be pulled from the data reported under Research Outputs. However, there is also a qualitative element where researchers provide more context and detail in relation to their achievements during the reporting year.
Late submission of these reports will incur penalty points as outlined in the Reporting Compliance Policy. In extenuating circumstances, the due date of annual / final reports MAY be extended but this must be approved by the relevant Research Ireland Scientific Programme Manager (SPM).
Exceptions
In certain exceptional circumstances (e.g. bereavement, extended illness, maternity leave), exemptions to the Reporting Compliance Policy may apply. However, it is important that the individual researcher contact their SPM or reporting@researchireland.ie to discuss.
