University Life
You’re reading this because you know the importance of a third-level education, but you also want to know that you’re going to have a good time, make new friends and, quite possibly, experience life away from home. DCU is one of the top universities in the country, so academically you have nothing to worry about. But what about the rest?
Let’s just forget about lectures, projects and exams for a minute, and focus on everything else that makes up university life.
Over the next few years you’ll discover something entirely new. You’ll also discover a lot about yourself. Life at university is daunting at first – anyone can tell you that – but the endless possibilities should fill you with excitement and DCU can certainly deliver on that.
Start with the basics: accommodation. There’s plenty of it on campus - nearly 1,000 beds in fact. There are plenty of rental opportunities outside the campus too, so you’ll never be far from all the action.
There’s a great buzz around DCU during the day and “The Hub” student centre is the perfect place to meet friends. Numerous events go on throughout the year, night and day. Having a good student life is one of the great things about the campus and there is always something on.
Joining any of the clubs or societies is probably the easiest way to make friends (not including your degree of course) as you’ll be hanging around with like minded people and there’s a huge selection to choose from. So, whether you want to compete against yourself (rock-climbing), compete against others (tennis, fencing), compete as part of a team (rugby, GAA, soccer), or discover your creative side through drama, fashion, music… you’ll find plenty of other students who want to do exactly the same. Then there’s always the state-of-the-art sports centre which includes the brand new 25m pool with sauna, jacuzzi and tepidarium where you can relax after a rigorous workout in our fully equipped fitness centre.
Of course if you’re not sure what’s on offer, you’ll find out during Freshers Week, when everyone will be out and about encouraging you to join in.
University life is about fun, opportunity, friendship, learning… and a whole lot more. Yes it is daunting – but isn’t that part of the excitement – and yes, it is hard work – which makes it all the more rewarding – but these really are the best years of your life. At DCU you’ll be able to make the most of them.
The sign of a great education comes with your first job… the sign of a truly exciting education comes in about 20 years’ time when you can tell your own children that your years at DCU were the best of your life.
