In order to give you the best possible chance to experience DCU, we are holding our Open Day over two days this year on Friday 17 th November and Saturday 18 th November.

Whether you are interested in applying to DCU or simply want to find out more about DCU, our Open Days are packed full of activities to help you get the most from your visit. The format includes subject presentations, exhibition area, guided tours of campus, displays and demonstrations.

Who's invited?

We welcome all 6th year students, 5th year students, transition year students, mature students, guidance counsellors, teachers and parents to visit the campus during our Open Days.

What's happening during our Open Days?

Our Open Days are student-focused and flexible. All aspects of DCU will be covered as well as information about higher education and university life in general. There will be a variety of opportunities for you to attend course talks, displays and demonstrations, where our lecturers and current students look forward to meeting you.

 

 

 

 

Subject Presentations

DCU offers honours degree courses in Business, Engineering, Communications, Law and Government, Languages, Education and Training, Science, Health, Fiontar and Computing. We offer up to date approaches to learning, and as well as attending lectures, students also undertake laboratory work, practical assessments, group projects and web-based learning, which makes them a very attractive prospect for future employers.

At the presentations, you will have the opportunity to meet with academic staff and current students. All degree courses will be covered in the relevant subject presentations. Each presentation will be 45 minutes in duration and will be repeated at a number of times throughout the day. Click here for a full list of courses.

Tours of campus

Tours of campus give you the opportunity to see the university and experience it during a typical student day. The tours will take place at regular intervals throughout the day, and highlights include:

  • The Helix
  • Student Accommodation
  • University Sports Club
  • The John & Aileen O'Reilly Library
  • The Hub Student Centre

Exhibition

The Exhibition Area provides Information Points for you to ask questions or find out more about DCU. Representatives from student services, academic departments, clubs & societies and students' union will be available to answer your queries about courses, accommodation, scholarships, sports facilities, admissions, student services, employment prospects and other aspects of university life. So whether you have any queries about entry requirements or sports scholarships, be sure to visit the Exhibition Area.

Students from various clubs & societies will also be present in the Exhibition Area doing demonstrations and giving you the chance to sample student life. There's over 100 clubs & societies to choose from, and joining any of the clubs or societies is probably the easiest way to make friends at university.

As you are aware, there is so much more to student life than a course you choose to study. On both Friday 17 th November and Saturday 18 th November, a series of general talks will take place offering information specific to DCU as well as advice about higher education and university life in general. Each talk will be repeated at regular intervals throughout the day and the general talks include:

How to choose your university

There are many factors to take into consideration when choosing a university. This talk will cover course content, facilities, size and location of university, applying to the CAO, routes into Higher Education, fees and higher education grants.

Top Tips for Learning

By attending this motivational presentation, students will receive great tips for making studying easier, be it for the Leaving Certificate or other exams. This talk will cover effective learning strategies as well as techniques and hints for reading and absorbing information.

Work Placements / Year Abroad

The talk will cover the benefits, including personal development and career enhancement, of the DCU Intra (work placement) Programme, as well as explaining the opportunities to study abroad as part of a degree.

Making the most of your time at university

This talk will cover all aspects of student life including making new friends and getting involved in sports, clubs and societies.

Sport at DCU

Representatives from Admissions, Sports & Recreation and the Sports Academy will be available to talk to you at the Exhibition Area about our Sports Scholarships and Elite Sport Entry Scheme.

Uaneen Module for Extracurricular Excellence

The ‘Uaneen Module' is intended to encourage students to develop their extracurricular activities along with their academic studies. It aims to encourage students to develop their transferable skills by becoming actively involved with clubs, societies, community work and extracurricular activity in general. DCU is the only university in Ireland to officially recognise the students' contribution to extracurricular activity by offering academic credits for such activities, and it is supported by IBEC. Information about the Uaneen module can be obtained at the Exhibition Area.

‘The Mezzanine' Collaborative Learning Café

This is a new collaborative learning café where students can work together on group projects and assignments. Find out more on our campus tours!

What happens when you arrive on our campus?

On the day, look out for our Student Ambassadors and members of staff who will be pleased to help you. They will be wearing blue jackets with the words ‘Can I help'. Upon arrival, you will be directed to the Open Day Information Points by our Student Ambassadors who will be present at both entrances to the University.

The Open Day Information Points will be located in the foyer of the Research & Engineering Building and the Exhibition Area. At the Information Points, copies of the prospectus and the Open Day Brochure highlighting the venue and times of talks, and map of campus will be given to you.

Transport - How to Find Us

Transport map

DCU is just a short distance from Dublin city centre, Dublin Airport , and the M50 and M1 motorways. The campus is bordered by Ballymun Road and Collins Avenue .

DCU is serviced by the following buses which stop outside the University at the Ballymun Road and Collins Ave entrances; or near to the University with stops on the Swords Road and Glasnevin Avenue . Routes servicing DCU include:

3, 4, 11, 11A, 11B, 13, 13A, 16, 16A, 17A, 19A, 33, 41, 41B, 41C, 46X, 58X, 103, 104, and 105

Bus Éireann

Number 100X – Dundalk, Drogheda, Dublin via the Swords Road

Number 101 – Drogheda, Balbriggan, Dublin via the Swords Road

DART

The terminus of the 17A bus is at Howth Junction Dart Station.

The 103 and 104 buses operate via Clontarf Dart Station.

To help us plan for our Open Days, we would appreciate it if you could complete a booking form. There are two types of booking form.

School Booking Form

This is a group booking form to be completed by Guidance Counsellors/teacher who is accompanying school parties to Open Day.

Individual Booking Form

Individual booking form

This is for individual students who are coming to Open Day with family and friends. Registration is encouraged because by completing a booking form, it will simply help us to prepare for Open Day. If you don't register, don't worry, you are still very welcome!
