Lecture Series on Policy, Practice and the Law in Education
The School of Policy and Practice under the leadership of Dr Elaine McDonald, Head of School, held the inaugural lecture in its lecture series on Policy, Practice, and the Law in Education on 20 September 2018. The theme of the inaugural lecture was Professional Practice and Regulation to which an esteemed panel of speakers provided a response.
Dr Harold Hislop, Chief Inspector and Dr Anne Looney, Executive Dean
The rationale underpinning the lecture series is to provide an opportunity for the sharing of perspectives on how education, professional practice, and the law are interrelated in both policy and practice contexts. In addition, the lecture series enables DCU Institute of Education to develop new relationships and enrich existing placement and research partnerships with schools (primary, and post-primary).
The lecture series was designed by Dr Bernadette Ní Áingléis, Associate Dean (Placements and Related Partnerships), and Ms Marie Conroy Johnson, Director of Placement (BRelEd). DCU Institute of Education was greatly honoured that the inaugural lecture and lecture series was opened by the Hon. Mr Justice Michael Peart, Judge of the Court of Appeal, who gave a very stimulating and engaging opening address.
The School of Policy of Practice was delighted to welcome on the evening a diverse audience from a variety of disciplines and sectors including education, the judiciary, health, and a range of regulatory and statutory bodies. To facilitate all those who could not attend the event, a podcast of the speakers' presentations is available below.
The School of Policy and Practice, DCU Institute of Education, looks forward to welcoming you to the next event in its lecture series on Policy, Practice, and the Law in Education. Details of this event will be announced in early 2019.
