THIS STATUTE is made by the Governing Authority of Dublin City University (hereinafter called “Governing Authority”) pursuant to the powers conferred on it by Section 33 of the Universities Act 1997.

All appointments of the office of President shall be made in accordance with this Statute.
- a. The person appointed to the office of President shall be the chief officer of the University.
b. The President shall be appointed by the Governing Authority after consideration of a report from a Selection Committee specially appointed by the Governing Authority for the purpose.
c. The Selection Committee shall carry out such interview and other procedures as shall be determined by the Governing Authority and which, in the opinion of the Governing Authority, shall best ensure participation in the selection process by high quality candidates from both within and outside the University.
d. The Selection Committee shall operate in such a manner as the Governing Authority may direct and its acts shall be subject to confirmation by the Governing Authority unless the Governing Authority otherwise directs.
e. Subject always to the provisions of Section 2(d) above, the Selection Committee may meet together for the despatch of business, adjourn and otherwise regulate their proceedings as they deem fit.
- a. On or before the appointment of a Selection Committee, referred to in Section 2(b) above, the Governing Authority shall appoint a Search Committee. Any such committee appointed by the Governing Authority before the commencement of this statute shall be deemed to be appointed pursuant to this Statute and subject to the provisions hereof.
b. The function of a Search Committee shall be to carry out such procedures, including public advertisement, as shall be determined by the Governing Authority and which, in the opinion of the Governing Authority, shall best ensure participation in the selection process by high quality candidates from both within and outside of the University.
c. The Search Committee shall operate in such manner as the Governing Authority may direct and its acts shall be subject to confirmation by the Governing Authority unless the Governing Authority otherwise directs.
d. Subject always to the provisions of paragraph 3 (c) above, the Search Committee may meet together for the despatch of business, adjourn and otherwise regulate their proceedings as they deem fit.

This statute may be cited as Statute No. 1 of 1999, Dublin City University.
- This statute shall come into operation on the 11 day of February 1999.
