Postgraduate Education Courses

Students will work as a community of practice, exploring arts education and creative pedagogies in a broad context through practical, artistic methods. This programme is open to educators wishing to deepen their expertise, artists who want to develop their education practice, and advocates eager to use the arts to create social change.

With more than 4,000 students, the DCU Institute of Education is Ireland’s largest provider of education and training with over 150 academic staff with expertise in education. We take a modern, innovative and creative approach to education.

The PMEP programme starts in September each year. It begins with a two-week Gaeltacht course in late August. Then lectures begin in early September five days a week over two semesters. This is a full-time course.

This programme is open to all serving teachers who are employed in a position funded by the Department of Education and who teach, and will continue to teach, SPHE/RSE in recognised Post-Primary schools. The programme is designed to meet the personal and professional needs of chaplains/pastoral workers and delivered by academic and practising experts in DCU Institute of Education.

We focus on creating a rich, collaborative and safe learning environment where the student voice is central.

Students can study this programme full-time for one year, or part-time over two years. 

The Masters in Education and Training Management (e-Learning) is offered through a blended approach whereby participants benefit from synchronous web conferencing and face-to-face settings. 

A defining aspect of the programme is learning together as participants are encouraged to collaboratively reflect on and share their learning through a range of activities and social networking.

The Masters in Education and Training Management (Leadership) programme is a two-year part-time programme. 

This is a blended programme that takes place on selected Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and on selected Saturdays. The programme commences in late September. 

The Graduate Diploma element of the programme consists of six modules and runs over three semesters. The dissertation element is a piece of independent research that takes place in the second year of the programme.

Students will have the opportunity to learn how to deal with a number of research methodologies including questionnaires, interviews, single-case experimental design, observation, and more.  There will be workshops on data analysis including qualitative thematic analysis and quantitative data  analysis using SPSS software.

The MEd is a two year part time programme. 

In the first year students undertake three core modules (Online) and three modules in their chosen special option.

The Master of Education in Early Childhood Education is a two-year, part time, taught programme delivered on campus and online (blended). 

The Masters of Education in Autism is designed to meet the professional and personal needs of educators seeking to acquire deep expertise in the area of evidence informed education for autistic pupils. There is a particular focus on the translation of research evidence and theory into best practices in schools.

Graduates will develop the skills and knowledge to effectively collaborate with others and lead the development of a culture of inclusion for autistic pupils in primary, post-primary or special schools, and other recognised educational centres.
