Further success for the DCU MSc in Human Resource Management

The DCU MSc in HRM has achieved further success with news that the programme has been short-listed for the Higher Education Awards Best Business Course 2017. This adds to the recognition achieved by the programme over the last number of years.

  • The DCU MSc in HRM was the overall winner of the gradireland National Postgraduate Course of the year (Business) 2016. The judges’ comments highlighted “Excellent links with industry and very high employment outcomes. Great examples of innovative learning methods and best practice use of CIPD support”
  • The MSc in HRM was officially recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). This makes the DCU MSc in HRM the 1st programme in Ireland and 8th in Europe to gain approval of alignment with SHRM’s global standards in HRM
  • In 2015 MSc in HRM was successfully re-accredited by the Chartered Institute of Developed (CIPD) as one of the few CIPD approved programmes in Ireland. During their visit the CIPD panel commended:
    • The HRM and Organisational Psychology group’s research profile and the way in which it informs teaching and learning
    • The way in which the programme teams’ approach to teaching and learning fosters a collaborative and networked approach to student learning and professional development which continues beyond the duration of the programme
    • The programme teams’ supportive approach to students and their development

The MSc in HRM annual alumni survey provides strong evidence that the programme is positioning graduates for a successful career in the HR profession. Of the 206 graduates tracked, 97% are in employment, with 86% of these in dedicated HR roles. Notably, graduates have moved to positions of elevated seniority and responsibility. 10% of alumni are HR Directors or have Business Partner roles, while 11% are employed as HR Managers. This career progression is significant considering this is an MSc in HRM providing entry into the profession. Other headline findings:

  • 92% would still pursue the MHRM programme knowing what they know today.
  • 88% said the programme has provided them with faster career advancement.
  • 94% would recommend the programme to others.

Speaking of the recent success Programme Director Dr Brian Harney noted: “We are delighted that the programme has achieved this recognition. It is a strong testament to the leading HR faculty we have at DCU Business School, the energy and enthusiasm of our students, and the success and engagement of our alumni”.
