Family business conference at DCU to explore enterprise and Brexit with special guest speakers

Ireland’s family businesses are some of the most innovative. However, with the uncertainty facing Ireland’s political and economic landscape as Brexit deadlines fast approach, families have more to consider as they plan for the future.

In response to these current challenges, DCU National Centre for Family Business will host a conference and networking event on October 24 at DCU Business School, where enterprising families and Brexit will take centre stage.

Enterprising Families: growing your business in changing times

The event, for which tickets are free of charge, will take place from 8am until 12:15pm on DCU Glasnevin campus. Attendees will hear from two of Ireland’s growing enterprising families: Rosy Temple, Sales Development Manager, and Lynn Temple, CEO at Magee 1866; as well as Clare Kelly and Rebecca Kelly, Directors at Glandore.

The morning will continue with a presentation from Professor Federico Fabbrini, Director of DCU Brexit Institute, and parallel Brexit workshops led by DCU NCFB partners, AIB and PwC.

Director of DCU National Centre for Family Business, Dr Eric Clinton, will open the event and share some key insights from recent research undertaken at the Centre. The aim of this event is to provide both an opportunity for families to network and make connections with other businesses in their locality, and to create a communicative space for knowledge sharing that will support family businesses in today’s society.

Earlier this year, research from DCU National Centre for Family Business found that long-term planning is a key feature of strategic decision-making in family businesses (Institute for Family Business Research Foundation, 2018). With the desire to support the longevity of family businesses, creating these opportunities for families to share their experiences with each other is one of the key driving factors behind the activities at the Centre.

Enterprising Families: growing your business in changing times will take place on October 24 at DCU Business School. Attendance is free but early registration is required through Eventbrite as spaces are limited.
