…Gareth Byrne is one of the most fertile and influential workers in the field of catechesis and religious education (RE) in Ireland. He provides a chapter on ‘The National Directory for Catechesis in Ireland: An Outworking of the Council’ and has himself made a significant contribution in the splendid road-map and resource Share the Good News (2010), a work that is frequently referenced in many of the essays. His writing exemplifies a critical and creative fidelity with a gentle and winsome communicative style that provides the ‘reimagined, cohesive and lifegiving understanding of evangelisation, catechesis and ongoing faith development’ that is so necessary (299). He shrewdly observes that sharing the Gospel has to start with dialogue internal to the Christian community (something that far too often has been absent) even though it must now also take place in the context of ecumenical, inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogues (p. 303)…
