Religious Education Specialism

New B. Ed Specialism in Catholic Education

“New B. Ed Specialism in Catholic Education”

starting in Autumn 2017

This specialism affords the opportunity to enhance students’ personal and spiritual development and to explore their own spiritual journey.

The New Catholic Education Specialism will be of particular interest to students who wish to explore ways in which Catholic Education is a distinctive yet inclusive approach to education in a globalised world.

Graduates of this specialism will be strongly positioned to:

  • Take up leadership roles in Catholic schools in the future, thus contributing to the development of a strong Catholic schooling sector in a pluralist Ireland.
  • Undertake graduate studies in religious education in the future, such as the Master’s in Religious Education (Primary) and the Doctor of Education (EdD).
  • Undertake roles in parishes, such as parish catechists, adult faith development officers, and Catholic religious educators for after-school religious education in non-Catholic schools (such as Educate Together Schools).

Modules include:

  • Understanding Catholic Theology.
  • Liturgical Celebration with Children.
  • Moral Theology.
  • Cultural Diversity and Religious Pluralism.
  • Religion and Social Justice.
  • Christian Spirituality and Leadership.
