Launch of Dublin World Meetings of Families 2018
The meeting to launch the World Meeting of Families (Dublin, 2018) was held at DCU St. Patrick’s Campus on Saturday 22 Oct. It was a very successful event with more than 650 participants during the day. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, the President of the Meeting in 2018 addressed the gathering at the beginning of the day, asking people to begin the process not by seeking definitions but by reaching out to speak to people in all their needs. The tone struck during the day was conversational with a variety of people giving inputs and being interviewed on stage. Witness was also provided by couples as to what Family means to them. The process was led by Kate Liffey, National Director for Catechetics, and by Wendy Grace of iCatholic. Archbishop Eamonn Martin spoke enthusiastically on the theme in the afternoon session before the process was formally launched. The possibility that Pope Francis might attend the meeting has been greeted with great anticipation.
