Sr Pat Murray, Presidential Distinguished Service Award
Congratulations to Sr Pat Murray, IBVM, Executive Secretary of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), based in Rome, on being announced as a recipient of the Presidential Distinguished Service Award 2020. This award is for people who have made a remarkable contribution to Ireland and to our international reputation.
Sr Pat is a Loreto Sister, and was a teacher in a number of the congregation’s schools, becoming Principal at Loreto College, Crumlin Road, Dublin. She served for a period on the Board of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), and became the first Loreto Education Officer.
As Executive Secretary of UISG, Sr Pat engages with the work of female religious sisters worldwide, supporting, in particular, the work of those in leadership, and enhancing the education and skills of sisters into the future. Representing congregations of women religious throughout the world, UISG’s mission is to seek to witness to and proclaim the identity of apostolic religious life in all of its diversity. Through weaving global solidarity and opening new frontiers, UISG animates, supports and stimulates leadership of religious to be a prophetic voice and witness in the Church and the world. Sr Pat is also a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Culture.
We have been delighted to work with Sr Pat here at MDCCE, supporting her work with religious sisters in Africa and beyond. She is a person of great vision and care for people in their need, open to all, and humorous too. Her can-do attitude is a real benefit to the work she is doing for sisters all over the world.
