Academic biography

Jacqui Wilkinson B.Ed. (hons) M.Litt, MA PhD is a lecturer in the DCU Institute of Education. Her subject area is Religious Education. As part of her position she co-ordinates and delivers the Church of Ireland Religious Education Certificate to students studying for the BEd  degree and to  teachers employed in Church of Ireland schools. 

Elected a scholar of Trinity College Dublin on her way to becoming a qualified primary school teacher, Jacqui has taught in a variety of school settings and was the editor and author of Follow Me, the primary school Religious Education programme taught in schools under the patronage of the Church of Ireland, Methodist Church and , Presbyterian Church. Jacqui lectured in the Church of Ireland College of Education from 2010 until the date of Incorporation into DCU.

Her lecturing and research interests include curriculum development in Religious Education, the attitudes of children toward Christianity, working with scripture in Religious Education, school assemblies and the ethos and identity of church schools. She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the University of Leicester in 2022 for her research entitled 'The Ethos of the Church of Ireland primary school : The Student Voice'.  

In July 2023 Jacqui was awarded the title of Visiting Fellow in Anglican Education Studies in Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln. There she is a member of the World Religions and Education Research Unit. In July 2024 Jacqui became an associate member of ISREV (The International Seminar on Religious Education and Values).


Jacqui is based in the Church of Ireland Centre (CIC) on All Hallows Campus, DCU and is a member of the DCU School of Human Development.
