Launch of Leitrim: The Irish Revolution, 1912-23
We are delighted to announce the publication of Leitrim: The Irish Revolution, 1912-23 (Four Courts Press) by Dr Patrick McGarty. In his book, McGarty offers a compelling account of the Irish Revolution in a so-called ‘quite county’. As such, McGarty pays close attention to the variety of modes of resistance discernible in Ireland during that period, and the relationship of that resistance to patterns of violence.
Leitrim: The Irish Revolution, 1912-23 was launched (virtually) by former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese from the Michael Collins Room at the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. President McAleese lauded the book as a ‘great piece of work,’ ‘fascinating’ and a story ‘incredibly well told’. The launch is available to view on YouTube and the book is now available to purchase.
The book is a product of McGarty’s PhD, completed at the School of History and Geography in 2019 under the supervision of Dr William Murphy. It is another valuable addition to the landmark Irish Revolution series edited by Dr Daithí Ó Corráin and Mary Ann Lyons.
