The recent issue of the Irish Journal for Adult and Community Education was launched Thursday 1 February in the City of Dublin Education and Training Board in the Town Hall, Ballsbridge, Dublin. Those attending included representatives from universities and colleges, the Adult Education Officers’ Association and AONTAS – The Voice of Adult Learning – under whose auspices the Journal is published. The event provided an opportunity to highlight the valuable contribution which the Journal is making to the broad field of adult learner in Ireland and internationally.
Expressions of appreciation were given to Dr Rob Mark, Honorary Researcher, HERC, for the enormous contribution he had made to the development of the Journal during his appointment as a member of the editorial board since 2005, and Editor in Chief from 2009 - 2017.
In thanking colleagues as he demitted office Rob said:
‘The journal is providing a critical voice for discussion and reflection on issues affecting adult learning. In so doing, it unique in that it crosses boundaries of policy, research and practice in new and innovative ways.’
The Adult Learner publishes articles with a local, regional and international focus. It has included diverse topics such as disadvantage, social exclusion, equality, workplace learning as well as promoting adult learning across cities and regions. One of the many strengths of the journal is its ability to cross boundaries of policy, research and practice through informing readers of new approaches in the field.
The current issue has a focus on quality and its management across the broad field of adult learning which is a subject involving politicians, policy-makers, administrators as well as teachers and support staff:
