HERC Researchers Contribute to New Book on Higher Education Research
Dr Yurgos Politis, HERC Postdoctoral Researcher, is joint editor with Bojana Culum and Filipa M. Ribeiro of the book New Voices in Higher Education Research and Scholarship, which was recently published by IGI-Global. This volume focuses on early career researchers and academics interested in emergent areas of higher education research as well as areas that are currently under-researched.
In his foreward, Professor Jonathan Drennan, University of Southampton states that:
“The papers presented in this volume demonstrate how the research undertaken by ECRs (Early Career Researchers) can develop new perspectives on higher education research as well as progressing an understanding of areas previously unexplored.”
The book highlights the diverse perspectives and innovative methodologies currently being used to investigate higher education. These include collaborative research projects; diversity and education; emerging technologies; globalization; knowledge creation; religion and higher education; MOOCs; social networks; and governance. It further reflects the increasingly collaborative nature of higher education research with contributions from a range of countries including Australia, Chile, Croatia, France, Ireland, Mongolia, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain and the USA.
Yurgos Politis also contributed a chapter in collaborations with HERC colleagues Dr Emma Murphy and Professor Maria Slowey entitled “Contributing to an Evidence Base for the Enhancement of the Experiences and Outcomes of Mature Students at an Irish University”. The chapter explores current patterns of participation and progression by mature students in under¬graduate (Bachelors) programmes in an Irish university and outlines a range of possible approaches to enhance their experience.
