Erasmus and European higher education
Director of HERC, Professor Maria Slowey was invited to attend a major celebration of 25 Years of the Erasmus Programme was hosted in Copenhagen on 8 and 9 May 2012. On 8 May, the European Journalism Centre (EJC) and the European Commission hosted a seminar aimed at journalists from European print, broadcast and online media. The focus of the seminar was on the impact of the Erasmus programme on European higher education, and its future perspectives. The seminar was held in parallel with the conference "Celebrating Erasmus 25 years past achievements and future perspectives" organised by the European Commission and the Danish EU Presidency. Professor Slowey was invited to contribute to this event on the subject of 'The Modern Academy: Global and European Challenges for Internationalization'.
The seminar was moderated by Inger Munk, Head of International Department at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. Invited speakers included Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth; Jan Truszczynsky, Director General for Education and Culture, European Commission; Doris Pack, Member of the European Parliament and President of the Culture and Education Committee; Morten Østergaard, Danish Minister for Education as well as representatives of UNESCO, the World Bank, European Association of International Education; European Students? Union and European Youth Forum.
