HERC research proposals accepted by NAIRTL to inform the development of the new National Academy for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
With a view to contributing to the consultation process and to encourage an evidence-based approach to the development of the proposed new National Academy for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, NAIRTL released a call for expressions of interest in preparing relevant reports, based on desk research. The objective of this initiative is to provide an overview of national and international policy and practice in relation to thematic areas relevant to the new National Academy for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. Reports received under this initiative will be collated by NAIRTL into one composite report, which will be submitted to the HEA in an effort to inform the development of the new National Academy for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.
HERC researchers Dr Emma Murphy and Dr Noreen Connolly O’Prey were both successful in their applications to NAIRTL and will complete full research reports over the coming weeks. Dr Murphy submitted a proposal in the area of digital inclusion in higher education under the theme of Informing Policy and Practice. The proposed report will explore relevant literature, policy and international best practice and provide recommendations for future research and policy to address the digital divide for students with disabilities in higher education. Dr Connolly O’Prey will prepare a report on how the best practices in Management and Administration in a new modern Teaching and Learning Higher Education Academy can enhance teaching and learning. The report will outline the most up to date literature, thinking, and evidence based recommendations in terms of; management and administration practices, philosophies, training & continuous professional development, management/leadership styles and organisation structures. It will discuss how they will enhance the overall education process of teaching and learning.
