New employees\Re-joiners* are required to complete 2 important steps BEFORE the Payroll Cut Off (Click on link for info on Payroll Cut Off Dates):
1-Sign and return your contract of employment to the HR General Office by email to askhr@dcu.ie or post to Human Resources Department, MacCormac Building, DCU Glasnevin Campus, Dublin 9.
2-Complete the EDPF (Employee Details Payment Form). This is an online form requiring payroll and pension information. It can only be completed when the employee receives a contract pack from HR. Your contract pack will include steps on how to complete and submit the EDPF (Orange sheet in contract pack). When the EDPF form is successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
*NOTE TO REJOINERS: Once there is a break in service, regardless of the duration of break or even if there has been no change in personal details, re-joiners are required to complete both steps before the Payroll Cut Off in order to be rejoined to Payroll. *When completing the EDPF there is a re-joiner form for current year re-joiners which takes less than a minute to complete.
A PPS number is an individual's unique identification number that helps you access social welfare benefits, public services and information in Ireland.
You may already have a PPS number, if you are an Irish National and:
- Were born in Ireland after 1971
- Registered for tax since 1979
- Currently\Previously in receipt of Social Welfare Benefit Payment
- You are participating in the Drug Payments Scheme
If you do not hold a PPS Number, it is advisable that you apply for one as soon as possible because Emergency Tax and USC rates will be applied to your salary until this is resolved. Find out how to apply for your PPS number here.
If this is your first employment in Ireland, you will need to register your details with Revenue. A PPSN is required before you commence this process. Find out how to register with Revenue here.
Once you have been paid you can access your payslip online by logging on to Coreportal by clicking this link . Upon logging on, click Employee dashboard and payment tab to view payslips, current tax details, edit your bank details or view any other relevant payroll documents. You will need your standard DCU network username and password to log on to Coreportal, this is available from the DCU ISS team. Click on link for contact details. PPSN - Personal Public Service Number
A PPSN is an individual's unique identification number that helps you access social welfare benefits, public services and information in Ireland, it is also a unique reference between Revenue and your employer to manage personal tax affairs.
If you do not hold a PPSN, it is advisable that you apply for one as soon as possible because Emergency Tax and USC rates will be applied to your salary until this is resolved. Once you have your PPSN, if this is your first Irish employment you will also need to register your employment with Revenue.
You need to complete the following steps in full to cease paying emergency tax and usc rates:
Firstly, to apply for a PPSN online, you will need to register with MyGovID for a basic account via this link (Note: you will need an email address and to confirm your name as it appears on your passport).
Once your MyGovID account is active you can access the online PPSN application service via mywelfare.ie (This is for people living in Ireland who are at least 18 years of age).
In order to get a PPSN, you must provide evidence of
- your identity
- your address
- why you need a PPS Number
Evidence of Your Identity
| If you are: | You will need to produce the following as evidence of your identity: |
| An Irish citizen born in Rep. of Ireland | The long version of your birth certificate and photographic ID (i.e passport or driving licence) |
| An Irish citizen via naturalisation or Foreign Birth Registration | Your current passport or Certificate of Naturalisation OR your Foreign Birth Registration certificate AND Irish or UK driving licence or Irish learner driving permit |
| An Irish citizen born in Northern Ireland or a UK citizen | Current passport OR Your birth certificate showing your mother’s birth name AND current driving licence |
| EU citizens (other than Irish and UK) | Current passport or national identity card |
| Non-EU citizens | Current passport or 1951 Convention Travel Document |
The following are not acceptable as evidence of your identity:
- baptismal certificate
- employment identity cards or personal letters
- copies of certificates or documents
- expired documents (For Irish and UK citizens, passports expired within the last 12 months may be accepted)
Evidence of your Address
You need to show evidence of your address. You can use any of the following documents to do this.
The document must show your name and address and not be older than 3 months:
- household utility bill
- an official letter or document
- a financial statement
- property lease or tenancy agreement
- confirmation of address by a third party such as a hotel or hostel administrator or manager, school principal or property owner*
*If you are staying with friends or relatives, an original household bill plus a note from the bill holder confirming your residency at the bill address is acceptable. This note can be written on the bill itself.
Evidence of why you need a PPSN
You need a PPSN because you have taken up employment with DCU. Your contract of employment is the required evidence for needing a PPSN as it is a signed offer of employment from your employer confirming when your job is due to start or when it started.
Upon notification of your PPSN from the DSP, the next step is to register your details with Revenue. Firstly, you need to set up an online account to access Revenue by clicking on My Account.
What you need to Register for myAccount
The following information must be provided for registration:
- PPS number
- Date of birth
- Mobile number or landline number
- Email address
- Home address
If this is your first ever contact with Revenue, once you register successfully, your password will be sent to you by post.
Once you have access to myAccount, you can now register your first Irish employment with Revenue.
To Register your Employment:
In myAccount click on the Jobs and Pensions option under PAYE Services.
You will need:
- new employer’s tax registration number (see here under DCU EMPLOYER REGISTRATION NUMBERS for appropriate Reg Number)
- start date of the new job
- frequency of payment
- staff number if one has been allocated by the employer. This is also called a personnel, works or payroll number (note: this is not mandatory)
Individuals may also be asked to provide additional information including:
- occupation and other details to determine entitlement to Flat Rate Expenses
- length of time living in Ireland and intention to stay to determine whether individual is tax resident
- details of overall income for the current tax year to determine the appropriate rate of Universal Social Charge (USC).
Jointly assessed individuals may be asked to provide information in relation to their spouse or civil partner.
Revenue will use any relevant information from your Revenue record and will only ask for information where it is missing or may not be up to date.
If you have not already provided your PPSN details to payroll on your EDPF, please forward it to payroll@dcu.ie once it has been issued to you and we will update your records.
Once you register your employment with Revenue via myAccount, they will issue DCU directly with an RPN (Revenue Payroll Notification). RPNs set out an individual’s tax credits and rate band for the current tax year.
The information you provide, in addition to the information held on Revenue’s record, will determine the appropriate tax credits and rate band. Usually, a copy of the RPN will be available to view on myAccount within 2 days of the submission being made.

Accessing Revenue
The quickest and most convenient way for individuals to manage their tax affairs is through Revenue’s myAccount.
myAccount is a single access point for all Revenue’s secure online services.
The following information must be provided for registration:
- PPS number
- Date of birth

- Home address
If this is your first ever contact with Revenue, once you register successfully, your password will be sent to you by post.
myAccount allows you to access many Revenue services, using a single login and password. These services include:
- MyEnquiries used to submit a query to Revenue or MyDocuments for access to Tax Credit Certificates and End of Year Statements (P21s).
- Employment Details Summary (formerly P60)
- PAYE Services: Claim credits and refunds, declare income, submit a return and add or cease a job or pension
- Property Services: Local Property Tax (LPT), Home Renovation Incentive (HRI), Help to Buy Incentive (HTB)
- Payments
Other services will be made available through myAccount in the future. Further information on myAccount can be found in myAccount FAQs.
In myAccount click on the Jobs and Pensions option under PAYE Services.

From 2019 onwards, your employer is no longer required to provide you with a P60. This is due to the introduction of PAYE Modernisation. This information is now available in your Employment Detail Summary in myAccount. Your Employment Detail Summary includes Employment income, Employer Refund Scheme and Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme payments (where applicable) made to you by your employer.
An Employment Detail Summary will only be available if there is a job/pension on record for the selected year.
You can submit a query to Revenue on the MyEnquires section of myAccount.
Alternatively you can log on to Revenue's website via this link, type in your PPSN and this will highlight the contact details of your local Revenue office.
Revenue operate a National Phone Number for PAYE callers: 01 738 36 36.

The service is available Monday to Friday, 09.30 to 13.30.
Please ensure that you have both your PPSN and Employer Reg. Number to hand, when you phone the tax office. They should also be quoted on all correspondence to Revenue.

Most forms (Completed and Approved Overtime claims or Blank Salary Certs\Blank Employer Forms for completion) can be directed to payroll via email to payroll@dcu.ie as a file attachment and will be completed and returned as time efficiently as possible
Any hard copies of Payroll Documents\Forms can be left in the Finance Office Drop Box which is located in the entrance lobby to 1838 Restaurant in the Albert College Building. This is a secure locked box which is checked daily by the Payroll Office Team.
