Prof Joe O'Hara finishes term as EERA President

EQI Director, Prof Joe O'Hara, has completed his term as EERA President delivering the opening keynote paper at ECER 2023 in Glasgow

EQI Director Prof Joe O'Hara finished his five-year term as President of the European Educational Research Association (EERA) delivering the opening keynote address at the ECER 2023 Conference in Glasgow. EERA is the largest educational research association in Europe and represents approximately 20,000 members drawn from 43 National and Regional Associations representing 37 nations and regions. With academic work divided into 24 Networks, EERA organises Europe's largest annual research conference - the European Conference on Educational Research.

Speaking as he stepped down from the role of President Prof O'Hara said:

I was enormously honoured to have had the opportunity to serve as EERA President. EERA is a dynamic, open, and resilient organsiation that has had a profound impact on how we think about and do educational research in Europe. Resolutely inclusive, EERA seeks to add a distinctively European voice to the global conversation on the value and priorities of educational research. It has been an enormous privilege to lead this organisation of the past five years and to see how it has addressed the huge challenges posed by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the outbreak of armed conflict in Europe. Above all the last five years have demonstrated that we have a research community in Europe, one that prioritises excellence, engagement but above all respectful inclusion. I wish the new EERA President Prof Marit Honerød Hoveid well and look forward to attending future ECERs as an ordinary delegate.
