EQI Director Prof Gerry McNamara comments on future of Leaving Certificate in Irish Times

In a thought provoking article in the Irish Times on Friday September 11^th, Prof Gerry McNamara question whether the decision to move to a calculate grades system might not provide us with an opportunity to address many of the problems commonly identified with the Leaving Certificate. Prof McNamara argues that rather than moving back to an examination system the entrenches social inequality at a structural level, the future of assessment in Ireland should rely on the knowledge and professionalism of teachers.
