Reconceptualising school leadership development & supports across frontiers
Dr Martin Brown, School of Policy and Practice at DCU, has given an invited keynote presentation at the UNESCO – Regional Centre for Educational Symposium, currently based in Sharjah, UAE.
The title of the UNESCO symposium was Instructional Leadership (IL): Preparing and Supporting School Leaders to Promote School Effectiveness.
Dr Brown's keynote presentation, ‘From the Meso to the macro to the micro - Reconceptualising school leadership development & support across frontiers’, provided an overview of his own research on leadership and evaluation, as well as a critique of various leadership theories and the school leadership and evaluation supports that are available in high-performing OCED countries such as Ireland.
The keynote concluded with a series of recommendations followed by a Q&A session on the suggested evaluation and leadership supports that are necessary for jurisdictions who are in the process of enhancing evaluation and leadership practices in schools and higher education institutions.
The symposium was attended by members of Ministries of Education from the Middle East and the UAE, as well as members of UNESCO and the Regional Centre for Educational Planning.
