Jean Monnet Network PROSPER launched by DELI in Dublin

From January 22 – 24, the DCU Brexit Institute and the Dublin European Law Institute (DELI) hosted a major conference to wrap up the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence REBUILD and launch the Jean Monnet Network PROSPER. Academics from 12 institutions across the EU came together to discuss ways to boost economic resilience in the face of challenges like globalization, climate change, and economic inequality.

The conference opened with a seminar featuring five PhD students from partner universities, who presented their research to the PROSPER Network. Their work will contribute directly to the Network’s work packages.

On the second day, the REBUILD project officially concluded, and the PROSPER Network was launched. Prof. Federico Fabbrini introduced the initiative, followed by two lively panel discussions on the EU’s economic future. The first panel, chaired by Prof. Fabbrini, tackled growth and competitiveness, examining governance, economic policy coordination, and the EU’s economic and monetary framework. The second panel, moderated by Prof. Derek Hand, addressed solidarity and security, with a focus on closing economic gaps and fostering cooperation among Member States.

The keynote speaker, Mairead McGuinness, former European Commissioner for Financial Stability, emphasised the importance of strong leadership and deeper collaboration within the EU. She called for completing the Banking and Capital Markets Union to unlock investments critical for the EU’s growth and global influence.

On the final day, adverse weather conditions moved the third panel online. Dr. Gëzim Visoka chaired the session, which explored shared strategies for building resilience. The three-day event celebrated the successes of the REBUILD project and set the stage for PROSPER’s ambitious agenda. With enthusiastic collaboration among participants, the Network’s goal of fostering dialogue on key issues got off to a great start.

The event reports will be available soon.
