Academic biography

Dr. John Loonam is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at DCU Business School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies and a Masters of Business Studies from the University of Limerick. He received his PhD in Business Studies from Trinity College, Dublin. He teaches Strategy at Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Executive level.  He was the Director of the DCU Executive MBA programme from 2010-2014.  Over the past decade he has collaborated with Executive Leaders on strategic projects within multinational, large-scale indigenous, small-to-medium sized enterprises, semi-state, public sector, and not for profit organisations.  

His research focuses on Strategy & Digital Business.  A sample of recent publications includes; Global Value Chains & Digital Platforms: Implications for Strategy (2022), On Digital Transformation: Implications for Strategic Change (2021), Cyber Resiliency for Digital Enterprises: A Strategic Leadership perspective (2020), Towards Digital Transformation: Lessons for Traditional Organisations (2018), Enterprise Social Systems & Organisational Change (2016), and Strategic Leadership for Enterprise Systems-enabled Change (2014).  He is also actively involved in supervising masters and doctoral students (PhDs). He welcomes PhD queries from students interested in the topics of Strategy and Digital Business.
