Academic biography

Dr Eugene Hickland is an Assistant Professor of Employment Relations and HRM at DCU Business School. He  previously held a lecturing position at the School of Business and Economics at NUI Galway and served as Vice Dean of Research and Programme Director for the MSc in Human Resource Management. His previous work experience included working at managerial and people management levels for both Irish and multinational companies. Dr Hickland's research has been funded by several international bodies (e.g. European Commission, Economic and Social Research Council  and the Irish Research Council) with findings published in world leading journals, among others: Human Relations; International Journal of HRM; Work Employment & Society; International Labour Review; employee Relations, Economic & Industrial Democracy. His research has also appeared in books from leading publishers, including Palgrave Macmillan and ETUI. He has significant wider external engagement research experience, with involvement in a number of employment relations/HRM projects with various organisations in Europe, Ireland, and UK including the European Commission.
