Tesco Financials: A Value Investor’s Perspective

DCU Business School was delighted to welcome Mr. Paul Mc Nulty, Chartered Financial Analyst and graduate of QUB and Fund  Manager at Setanta Asset Management,  to present to final year Bachelor of Business Studies Students and DCUBS faculty.

Following an inspiring outline of his career to date, Paul Mc Nulty's presentation to the students was titled “Tesco Financials: A Value Investor’s Perspective”. This included an analysis of the 2012 accounts of Britain's largest retailer, Tesco plc, discussing the positive aspects of the business model and then moving to value the stock using the current earnings power using a range of discount rates. This presentation offered great insight to the students given the recent announcement of a drop in profits for the first time in two decades and a write down of the value of its global operations by €3.5bn and plans to exit the US market.

This lecture formed part of the Guest Lecture series in AC302: Financial Statement Analysis,  a series designed to align with DCU Business School's commitment to ensuring that our graduates are industry-ready at graduation.

We would like to thank Paul Mc Nulty for his time and most interesting lecture.
