Ordinary Treasures

Ordinary Treasures

Still from the short film ‘Ordinary Treasures: Objects from Home’.

Ordinary treasures: Fostering empathy, solidarity and anti-racism in youth culture. This project brings together pupils from Ballymun Youthreach with student teachers, displaced persons and the Fighting Words office in DCU to co-create an anti-racist graphic novel and teaching resource. A series of workshops, facilitated by DCU Fighting Words, took place on the DCU campus and onsite in Ballymun. Therein participants codesigned resources based on a short anti-racist film created by DCU Irish Refugee Integration Network (IRIN). The collaboration is providing the basis for research into how best practice anti-racist educational resources can be co-created, leveraged and scaled to build capacity in intercultural competencies and social inclusion.
