Announcing the ‘Best Computing Project’ at DCU’s Engineering and Computing Expo

Congratulations to Joanna Talvo and Chloe Ward, two Computer Applications final year students, whose project was chosen by Workday as the ‘Best Computing Project’ at DCU’s Engineering and Computing Final Year Projects Expo.

Their project 'SAGE' is a decision-making application that ultimately simplifies the decision-making process for friends, family, and colleagues when it comes to planning and organising events. 'SAGE' offers 3 categories to choose from: activities, restaurants, and movies. It takes the users’ availability into account with the aid of an in-app calendar to find a solution that suits all group members’ availability. It has a swipe feature where the user can swipe right for “yes” and left for “no” to indicate whether they like or dislike an item and recommends an activity in which all group members have similar interests.

Diarmuid Delaney, Senior Manager in Development Engineering said: We were delighted to support this year’s Expo Prize for the Best Computing Project.  We found the extent of all the projects on display were of high standard and it was a difficult decision to make.  However, this project 'SAGE' stood out due to solid technical implementation including a robustly designed data model. The project solved the business need with a strong user experience but also catered for accessibility requirements. Overall the SAGE project tackled an interesting business case and demonstrated a very impressive level of completeness in the final result. We wish both Joanna and Chloe the best of luck in their bright future ahead.”
