DCU student receives prestigious Westin Scholar Book Award
We are delighted to announce that Greta Dineen Kelly, MA in Data Protection and Privacy Law student at DCU, has received the prestigious Westin Scholar Book Award.
The IAPP (The International Association of Privacy Professionals) created The Westin Scholar Book Award to support students who are identified by their professors as future leaders in the field of privacy or data protection. Each awardee receives a $1,000 cash award, a copy of the book “Privacy and Freedom”, membership with the IAPP, complimentary exams for IAPP certifications and unlimited access to virtual training for all IAPP certification programs.
We asked Greta what this award means to her:
“I am so honoured to be this year’s recipient of the Westin Scholar Book Award, I wish to extend a big thanks to the IAPP for this opportunity. Receiving this will help further my education in the growing area of data protection and privacy law”.
Dr Rob Brennan, Assistant Professor in Computing and Programme chair of the M.A in Data Protection and Privacy Law said:
“GDPR and the concentration of multinational headquarters in Ireland mean it is the front line of data protection in the EU and the world. The Irish demand for data protection expertise adds to the significance of this international award. We are delighted to partner with IAPP to nominate the leading member of the first graduating class our multidisciplinary MA covering both data protection law and information systems.”
