Marnie Hay
My name is Marnie Hay and I am the Chair of the Master of Arts in History. For me, being a historian is a bit like being a detective. We both gather, analyse and interpret evidence in order to find out the who, what, where, when, how and why of something that happened in the past. As a historian of modern Ireland, I delve into topics related to the Irish Cultural Revival, the Irish Revolution and youth.
My current research examines the socialisation and mobilisation of youth within the Irish nationalist movement of the early twentieth century. I also explore how children and adolescents experienced the events of the Irish Revolution.
This research into the past has the potential to provide insight into the radicalisation of youth and how children and teenagers experience violent conflicts in the world today. I am just one member of a team of historians who enjoy sharing our passion for history with students.
Our MA programme offers you the opportunity to learn more about how Ireland came to be the way it is today. We also help you to develop the skills you need to do archival research and undertake your own historical research projects.
