The maximum flexibility around course options, coupled with the vibrant and inviting campus was why I chose to study at DCU. Biotechnology in particular appealed to me because the final semester is subdivided into two streams, one catered towards research and the other to industry.
I had the privilege of doing my eight-month INTRA work placement with a multinational biopharmaceutical company. I had always envisioned myself becoming a ‘white coat scientist’, but getting to work with exceptionally talented individuals positively influenced me and I chose the industry-related stream in my final year.
Kickstarting a career in industry
Having concluded my degree, I’m delighted to say I’m returning to industry, which is possible because of the wide range of skills and attributes I’ve developed at DCU. I have grown both personally and professionally through advancing my technical and analytical capabilities, and have significantly broadened my range of soft skills through project work and other tasks.
I’d highly recommend the Faculty of Science and Health to aspiring future students. We got unparalleled guidance, support, assurance and encouragement from the world-class professors. Coupled with the approachability of the broader academic team and great peer support made my time at DCU a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting learning experience
