"General Entry gave me a strong foundation in all the subjects I’ll need for future years and extra time to decide which of the three degree programme options best suited my skills."
I chose Chemical Science General Entry as I was unsure which course in DCU Chemical Sciences was for me. General Entry gave me a strong foundation in all the subjects I’ll need for future years and extra time to decide which of the three degree programme options best suited my skills. It’s very varied with a good mix of practical lab-based skills as well as theoretical knowledge, and project and group work.
As there are many modules within the year, there are many different lecturers. They all have different teaching styles, but they’re all very clear, and work with you to help you with your learning.
Practical opportunities to learn
Throughout the year, you have opportunities to try new subjects and learn new skills, whether those are communication skills you need for good collaboration during group work or more practical skills like the correct way to use a pipette or how to conduct a reaction under reflux.
In our chemistry lab during the first year, we all got to create a plan to study water samples for contamination and to determine the quality of the water samples. It was a group project that allowed us to work together to do the necessary tests and also it was similar to how it will be when we’re working in labs in the future.
Chemical Science General Entry is a great course to do if you’re interested in chemistry. It is fascinating and has variety so there is something for everyone with an interest in science.
