In teaching and researching media communications in their many forms, the School of Communications aims to give students hands-on experience in producing for print, broadcast and digital media.

For this purpose, the School has the following facilities

  • 8 Computer labs with over 80 PCs and 80 Macs (students also have the use of numerous computer labs for the general student body)
  • Software in those labs for image, audio and video editing, design and layout, and web site production
  • A radio/production studio, capable of producing broadcast-quality material
  • A 3-camera television studio with output to broadcast digital format D9
  • A digital "Pro Tools" audio/video editing suite of professional standard
  • A video editing suite of professional standard
  • A lab containing dedicated video editing computers using Media100
  • DVD editing facilities
  • Photographic studio and processing facilities in black & white and colour

Students can borrow mini-disc recorders, still and video cameras to work on assignments and projects
