Academic biography
My current research is a two-year archival project exploring the history of the Standard/Catholic Standard newspaper, which ran from 1928 to 1978. This research is funded through the Government of Ireland scheme overseen by Research Ireland.
I worked as an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Visual Communications at the University of Limerick, and spent a year on the Coastal Uplands: Heritage and Tourism (CUPHAT) project at University College Dublin.
In 2022 I successfully defended my PhD thesis at Dublin City University, which used oral history as a methodology and was focused on media history, based on thirty face-to-face interviews with former journalists and editors about their working lives.
Having graduated with a BA (International) in History, Sociology and Political Science, I followed up my MA in Journalism by working as a newspaper reporter for 13 years (2004-2017).
Research interests
My principal research interests lie in the fields of journalism, media history and oral history.
