Professor Robert Elgie admitted to the Royal Irish Academy
The Royal Irish Academy, Ireland’s leading body of experts in the sciences and humanities, admitted eighteen new Members on Friday (26th May) including Professor Robert Elgie, the Paddy Moriarty Professor of Government and International Studies at Dublin City University.
Professor Elgie is renowned for his work on semi-presidentialism and has published extensively on political leadership and French politics.
He graduated with a first class honours degree from Oriel College, Oxford in 1987 followed by a PhD at the London School of Economics.
Professor Elgie is the current editor of the Journal French Politics and the lead co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of French Politics.
Since 1785 membership of the Academy has been awarded to persons who have attained distinction by their unique contributions to education and research.
Professor Elgie has received considerable international recognition for his work and has addressed numerous global forums such as the United Nations and the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey.
There are now over 850 members of the Royal Irish Academy.
