The men's team are the current holders of the Sigerson Cup, landing the title in 2020 with the competition hosted on DCU campuses. This is their fifth success in the competition over the last fifteen years. This success is mirrored on the ladies side. They recently won the Division One League title and look forward to hosting the O’Connor Cup in March spread over three days, including International Women’s Day.
This past semester brought success as DCU Dóchas Éireann landed the Division One and six Ladies Football titles and the 2nd year A Football title. They also have a further two finals to look forward to at Senior and Junior level.
DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA club provides a proven development pathway for young players from across the country. The successes of Dublin, Donegal and Mayo teams in recent years have featured many players who have been successful in DCU on a playing and academic front. While on the Ladies front the successes of Dublin and recently Meath have been backboned by a strong DCU contingent.
The sponsorship deal will enable DCU Dóchas Éireann to invest in nurturing talented young players, providing the university’s elite student athletes with cutting-edge supports that enable them to combine the highest standards of sporting performance and academic achievement.
Sean Mulryan, Ballymore Chairman and group Chief Executive said
“I am a sponsor of a few GAA teams including my county team Roscommon but I am particularly pleased to sponsor Gaelic Football at university level for the first time. I am an admirer of the set up at DCU and the standards achieved. It is a university going places.”
Prof Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said
“I warmly welcome Ballymore’s sponsorship of DCU Dóchas Éireann. This agreement represents a significant investment in the future development of our talented student athletes. It will ensure that our men’s and women’s teams will have the support they need to maximise their sporting performance, while also excelling academically.”
James Galvin, Director of Sports and Wellbeing at Dublin City University said
“At DCU, we pride ourselves on both the promotion of sports and physical activity as part of the student experience, the outstanding performances of our elite athletes, and the expertises of our School of Health and Human Performance in the science that underpins sport.
We welcome this new partnership with Ballymore which will enable us to provide our elite student athletes with an unrivalled dual personal and professional development programme that enables them to be the best they can be, in sport and in life.”
Paul O’Brien, Head of Gaelic Games at Dublin City University said
“We are delighted to have Ballymore as sponsors of Gaelic Football in DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA Club. We are delighted to work with a company which has such a strong reputation as supporters of gaelic games. Ballymore is a Roscommon based company, and DCU has a strong historical connection to the county. Roscommon men, such as Cathal Cregg, Enda Smyth and Brian Stack have been to the fore of our five Sigerson successes in the past.
It is great that the support will be attributed to both football codes considering the huge strength of Ladies Football both nationally and in the college at the moment. We look forward to a busy year of ladies football as we host the O’Connor Cup finals in March.
This sponsorship will allow us to further enhance our scholarship offering and continue to support the development of high performing student-athletes as they seek to excel on two fronts.”
